A Loving Home Awaits….

Fosbury and Jasper visiting Bedlington in October 2010

For a bedlington looking for new forever home. Martin and Julie had to say goodbye to their very much loved Fosbury in January and just recently Jasper. Both dogs were much loved rescues and suffered from Cushings. Do you know of a bedlington who needs a home? Martin and Julie are looking forward to offering a forever home to an unwanted or rescue bedlington.

The Welsh News From Enid

Good morning, Bloggers. As you can see from the photo we had a great morning waiting for the Olympic Torch relay to come through Merthyr. The atmosphere was tremendous and we positioned ourselves to watch the final runner come into the park. He was the one in the photo with the grandsons last Sunday on the Blog. They also had a photo with Gethin Jones and as the children were speaking to him in Welsh he wanted to know if Ecco was Welsh speaking! Unfortunately the photo did not turn out very well - so not good enough to share. I hope Ian manages to get some shots today at Llangollen. Diane Herbert's dog , Pippa, gave her a nasty scare a couple of weeks ago. She ate some peanuts a neighbour had left out for the birds and was very unwell. She was violently sick and was on a drip overnight. She is fine now but, thank goodness. I didn't realise that peanuts could have such an adverse reaction in dogs. One more thing to be careful of!
Irene's puppies are blooming and will soon go to their new owners. I wish I lived closer so that I could have gone to see them. The two bitches are staying with Irene and Sue so I'll see them when they are shown for the first time.

I'm sorry that I have not been making any comments on the blog but I have tried and tried ro register and Have not been able to . I'll have to get Jon on the case. We're off to Southern Counties on Thursday so good luck to everyone showing. Enid

Thank you Enid a very exciting time for the Welsh community with the torch visiting towns in Wales. The puppies look lovely real bundles of mischief, I do hope the new owners  join the blog and send us in photos. Sorry to hear about your computer problem, you are not the only one who is have trouble. I also know Trevor and Jane can’t post blog comments!

We Say Goodbye To Jasper

Our little Jasper was put to sleep yesterday. We had been on holiday in Northumberland last week. He was sick on Thursday afternoon and rapidly became ill. We brought him home on Saturday and he had become very yellow and jaundiced. The vet came out to him and took bloods which confirmed liver failure. Our beautiful little boy was 11 years old and will be very sorely missed. He was loved so much; he was such a huge character for such a little fellow. We still keep looking for him on his cushion. Regards Martin and JulieJasper rosette

I am so sorry to read your sad news. Jasper has been a regular visitor to the blog since 2006 and we have followed his special pork pie birthdays over the years. Jasper  was diagnosed with Cushings and has spent his later years on medication. Jasper was a beautiful boy and will be very missed by all of us but he will join his pal Fosbury who passed away at nearly 16 last January.

Juniors At School

Hi All,
I know it’s not Midland Musings day but I have to slot these things in when and where I can! As you can see, (and I’m sure Sal & Gav would agree) our ring craft is more of a youth club. The photo is of Arthur, Erin, bezzy mate Enzo and hero Archie the Irish in the background. I’m sure some of the more serious participants, (sorry Tony!) find us very juvenile and annoying but we have such fun!!!!!!!!!!!!! The new boy baby Frenchie is just the most adorable little chap, he has no fear of anyone. He chewed on Erin’s topknot like some huge candyfloss, even she was none plused.
Great to hear the news about Asha, you must be very excited Lesley, hope all goes well. Thanks for the birthday wishes, had a lovely week, really couldn't have wished for better weather. Back to work Sunday, so roll on the next holiday! Hope to see some of you soon at the Midland Champ Show. Bye for now, Jane xxx

Thank you Jane Junior class sounds a whole lot of fun, I think lots of playing and not much learning at this St Trinian’s School For Dogs!

Calendar Dogs

It’s been some time since I caught up with the blog, mainly due to work/family, however we have some exciting news about our lovely little Archie, some months ago whilst walking in the Cotswold country park near Cheltenham, I was approached by a lady who said she would like to take some pictures of Archie as she was a pro canine photographer and did not have many Bedlington pics, I met with her some weeks later and she brought her husband along who also took some pictures, they are Bob and Pam Langrish, Bob Langrish is a celebrated equine photographer who has recently been awarded an MBE and is official photographer for the Olympic equestrian events, Pam Langrish is gaining a reputation as a wonderful canine / feline photographer. Anyway Archie’s pics have been chosen for 3 months of the Avonside 2013 calendar , he is February July and November , we have also been asked if we are willing for more pics to be taken, and we are .This is not a financial arrangement but we have been given copy of all the pictures we wanted to let the blog know and especially Bernard ,and Paula O Leary who entrusted us to provide this lovely dog with a loving home. I am especially pleased myself as since having a brief lesson with Paula, I have been responsible for trimming Archie, so despite some errors he is still good enough to be a calendar boy. If people wish they can google search Avonside Bedlington calender 2013 and look at the images on the reverse of the calender to see Archie (and others of course).regards Paul and Jenny Hooper and Archie

Thank you Paul and Jenny fantastic news so exciting to have your dog featured in calendar that is being retailed countrywide  I was also approached by a photographer for the photos and was lucky enough to have the dogs featued over the 12 months in this year’s calendar. All the dogs have a staring roll even the oldies which were 12 and 14 when photographed two year’s ago. The photos are just lovely and i spent about £100 buying calendars as Christmas presents for our family.

Supporting Bedlington Rescue With The 2013 Calendar Project

CaptureBTA Calendar 2010

With everyone's help, I shall be able to take on the production of the Rescue calendars for 2013, now that the BTA has withdrawn from the project. I've spoken to my printer (he does all my own Limited Edition prints, greetings cards and calendars to a very high standard) and from the discussions, I am happy to undertake the job. The calendars will be 12-month ones (sorry, not 15 months, as before) with full-colour photographs throughout.
I think there may have been some people who were not entirely happy with the quality of the print reproduction on previous calendars – for that reason, having talked it through with my printer, I will need people to send by post their photographic prints (preferable clear glossy ones) rather than “j-pegs”/digital images e-mailed in (this will ensure the best quality reproduction without the picture resolution being affected). Please also enclosed a s.a.e so I can return your pictures to you once the selection has been made.
To ensure that as much money is raised for Rescue, the arrangements will be pretty much as previously. Please send me your photos (any size) with £1 for each photo you're submitting, and I shall find someone independent to select 12 for the calendar and one for the cover. The cost of the calendars will, as before, be £10, plus £2 p&p (postage cost will need to be worked out for multiple orders, once we know the weights etc, and depending on how hard the Post Office is going to wallop us for postage!). To help keep the costs down, and to raise as much money as possible for Rescue, there won't be any free calendars offered this year. If you can all get your pictures to me by Wednesday 1 August, this will give us plenty of time for the printing work, so the calendars will be available well before the end of the year (I hope to be able to take them to Midland Counties and LKA, but will be able to confirm this later).
All the proceeds from the sale of the calendars and the photo entry fees will be given to Bedlington Rescue, once the printing bill is paid – with luck, and your support, we can all help this very worthy cause.
I hope I can count on your support- send photos and fees to Viv Rainsbury 174 Bells Road, Gorleston On Sea, Norfolk, NR31 6BA

I would would  like to thank Viv in taking on the task of producing the calendar for 2013. We can all do our part by sending in good quality prints and buying the completed calendar for friends and family. This is a fantastic opportunity for all of to give something back to our much loved breed!

Meet The Family

Just wanted to say that we had a great time at the weekend and to thank you for the wonderful food at the barbecue. We are getting a caravan soon so will have plenty practice by next year to camp! Got a great picture of Esther with her mam and dad as well. Jayne
Thank you Jayne,  it is lovely to meet the beddie family. Whether show, pet or working dogs Fun Days certainly  bring owners and dogs together. We will look forward to you partying with us (in Nicki and Andy’s awning bar) on the camping field next year.

Tomorrow Is Bedlington Day…..

At Bath Championship Show. No challenge certificates on offer but good luck to the 16 bedlingtons entered.  We wish Stuart all the best as this will be Stuart and Genie’s first show after his heart bypass surgery.

Who Needs A Dishwasher!

This is Agnes Dreadlocks doing a bit of plate cleaning. I think this trait is something to do with the liver bedlington, as Fudge is always on the look out for an open dishwasher door. Thanks to Alan for the photo.

A Belated Happy Birthday To…

Jane for last Monday. Hope Trevor and the beddies gave you lots of special treats!

Wednesday’s News From Wales

ianhaircut 002ianhaircut 003

Good morning, Bloggers. What a pity the sun didn't shine for the Fun Day last Sunday. However it didn't dampen our spirits and Hefin and I enjoyed our judging. It was lovely catching up with friends we've made from all over the country. We met Seamus, a Doehey dog, who is one of Ecco's puppies from Essex. They had decided to rent a cottage in the Cotswolds for a week's holiday so that they could come. We also met Alphie from Macclesfield who we bred three years ago. He made such a fuss of us! It's amazing how they remember. They were staying at a caravan site in Moreton- in - Marsh especially to come. There were lots of novice campers on site. Julie Brooks came with her new trailer tent and had lots of help setting up and taking down (which was more difficult). Alan, Maria and Jack were there in their new van as were Sue and Gary from up north. I'd like to thank Nikki for making their awning site HQ and bar.
Also a big thank you to Ian for raising over £200 for rescue. I think he should have stuck with the Mohican - more like a Bedlington.
Next year's Fun Day is on Sunday, 21st. July at the same venue organized by the MBTC. If you have any suggestions for Fun Classes , races or activities for next year please let us know. Hope to see you there once again. Enid

Thank you Enid just look at the weather now!!  Never mind it did not rain on Sunday but it did feel more like February than May! The fun day is the one event where we do meet up with our puppy owners and meet  pet owners who come to enjoy a very special day with their dogs.
In my opinion there should be more events organised by the breed clubs that is not concentrated on the show dog and where everyone can take part. Derek and his Northeast Walks are always popular. It is a shame that the the National Bedlington don’t have a fun summer event on their calendar as there is a large population of bedlingtons in the North of England

A Note From Frances Fuller

What a fantastic sponsorship donation to Rescue, thank you to Ian for being such a sport, and the £200 + raised was excellent. Hope you did not suffer from clipper burn?????????????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although Sunday was cold the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, to see so many Bedlingtons, all shapes, sizes, colours, was a treat and FUN was definitely the name of the game. I would like to thank all those who made the day possible especially Lesley and Louise. Some friends came up from Biggin Hill and they and their lurchers had a good time .My thanks to all who showed their dogs, I hope that the experience was pleasant to all, I enjoyed going over the dogs.
Enjoy and continue to sing the praises of the Bedlington.

Frances Fuller, head co-ordinator Bedlington Rescue and Rehoming.

Just for fun can you make a caption for wor Billy while playing on his play station? The picture was taken by Sapphire and Jazz the two roaming reporters from The K9 Marshal Crew while making sure that all campers were ok and settled in. Ian Jazz and Sapphire

Forget the pills for insomnia buy a play station!!!  .

Just For Stuart

I think Ian should change jobs and become a bouncer!

No chance. Beautiful day here. Jon.

Roll On 2013 Fun Day

P190512_19.20Jazz and Sapphire enjoyed listening to the brass band in Shipston On Stour Market Place.

Well first things first Sapphire, Jazz and myself would like to take this opportunity to thank all who sponsored me or donated money at the fun day to see me having my head shaved in aid of Bedlington Rescue / re-homing. We broke the £200 mark which even amazed me it was great so a very big thank you from The K9 Marshal Crew.

P160512_13.06Jazz and Sapphire were fascinated by Mork and Mindy who were definitely not frightened of the dogs.

Well the fun day is over and done with we got back home at 10:30 pm on Sunday night.. Both Sapphire and Jazz were tired from such a great week and want to thank Lesley, Jon and Nicki for their hospitality over the week and for the sausages on the bbq. On our way home Sapphire and Jazz said that they really enjoyed meeting their bedie friends and all the fun that they had over the week and cannot wait for next year’s event. They but did say that I will have to go a long way to top off this year’s head shave.  I was worried about feeling the cold but thanks to Tony and Sarah, stayed warm, after they presented me with a woolly hat with a bedie on it to keep the cold out. The funny thing was we  arrived home the same time as Brian he travelled home from the Scottish show. When I took my hat off to show him he jumped out of his skin thinking that I was not going to have it cut that short. Till next time, Ian and the K9 Crew

ss Mum and I thought the pudding was yummy, yummy, yummy (BBQ bananas with  choc ices)

It is still not to late to sponsor Ian and for those kind people who have already offered money but could not make the fun day please make any donations by cheque to Bedlington Terrier Rescue and Re-homing and sent to Ian at:

BTA Fun Day

Although a keen cold wind was blowing it remained dry for another very successful Fun Day. Both Jon and I were busy helping and unfortunately we didn’t take many photos. I would like to thank everyone on the BTA committee  especially Louise who spent a long time preparing all the paper work and organised the team of helpers and judges! Also  thank you to Billy who ran the terrier simulated coursing and to Lurcher Link for the use of their lure and help in the lurcher events.

Thank you to Frances Fuller who judged the working bedlington and lurcher classes, to Hefin who judged the beginner’s bedlington show classes  and Enid for the fun classes. I have to say it was fantastic to see all the rescue dogs, everyone of them is special and we are so grateful to those kind people who give these dogs a new forever home!  Many thanks to our vicar Cannon Nicholas Morgan for presenting  the lurcher coursing and racing prizes and to my Feldon Flyers dog club members who were  fantastic as they ran the agility, a big thank you to them. Unfortunately only one dog passed the Kennel Club Good Citizen, thank you to Phyllis Taylor our KC examiner

Many thanks to all the ring stewards and to everyone who helped  to make the day run smoothly. Once again  our master of ceremonies' Nigel King did a terrific job announcing all the events. Lastly to Nicki and Andy Kinns who provided the burgers and ribs for the Saturday BBQ, helped load and unload all the agility equipment, Andy for  running  all the timing on  the coursing and  Nicki for doing a fantastic job sweeping the hall and vacuuming all the grass off the pavilion carpet. I hope I have not left anyone out, it was a great team of people  that contributed to another very successful Fun Day. Chris Harris The BTA treasurer will let me know just know much money was raised for rescue.

The icing on the cake today and the biggest thanks goes to Ian who had his head shaved by Billy to  raise over £200  for rescue, a great total, you are a star Ian and thank you so much from all those needy dogs.
